Grand Master Dang Huy Duc reunites with Great Grandmaster Nam Tae Hi after 50 years
Grand Master Dang Huy Duc's welcome remarks on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at the Hwa Rang Kwan Martial Arts Academy:
Great Grandmaster Nam Tae Hi, Ladies and Gentlemen, my dear students
I have waited for this day for 50 years.
It is with great happiness and honor, that we welcome Great Grandmaster Nam Tae Hi to our Academy today.
Great Grandmaster Nam Tae Hi is known as the father of Tae Kwon Do in Viet Nam. In 1962 (50 years ago), I had the honor of being his student, of being his Vietnamese son.
Great Grandmaster Nam Tae Hi is a living legend. I am his legacy, you are his legacy. Because of his teachings, I became national champion of Viet Nam in 1966 and Asian Champion in 1969. And my students went on to win many national championships as well.
In 1962, Great Grandmaster Nam Tae Hi said something to me that I will never forget. He said: “20 years from now, if I see a group of students perform a pattern, I will be able to recognize which student is your student.” Today, we will ask the Great Grandmaster if that statement holds true. Later Today, my students will have the great honor of performing the three patterns that Great Grandmaster designed:
#1 HWA RANG #2 CHUNG MOO #3 UL JI
Great Grandmaster Nam Tae Hi, The Father of Vietnamese Tae Kwon Do, it is our honor to welcome you today.
